{Sunset Amphitheater & Chataqua Wedding Photographer} Boulder Wedding Ryan+ Carrie

I’ve never seen a bride smile so much, as I did on August 15th when my long time friend, Carrie married someone, whom I consider my closest friend, my brother Ryan.  These two are amazing for one another and can always be found laughing together, drinking wine or traveling the globe.  Of course that is when Ryan isn’t busy with global domination and Carrie wasn’t working on her one of a kind couture gown!  The embroidery alone took 35 people two weeks in India to finish!  She used to work for Marc Jacobs in NYC and still had great connections, so when she needed her embroidery done ASAP, she knew the right person to contact.   He put other designers work on hold to get her beading done in time!  Unfortunately, these pictures don’t do her gown justice, so be sure to check back for images of her gown and her custom designed ring too!

I loved her vintage cowgirl boots too!  They were from Billings, MT where her sister and my close friend Lea works as a ceramic professor.

I have to admit it was a little difficult being in the wedding, help coordinate and photographing, but a number of friends, family and my amazing husband, Wade really stepped up to cover the event that I couldn’t shoot.  A special thanks to everyone that helped including Carrie’s good friend Rachel for photographing the rehearsal and ceremony, my Aunt Rose who captured me crying when I thought no one was photographing me, for Ray Rushing who shot the reception and my rock star husband, who before this wedding was my second shooter, but now I might have to change that, as he did such an incredible job!  For Lea Zoltowski, who made the incredible vases as giveaways & decor and for my 84 year old Grandma, who made the cake!  I learned her secret cake making skills a few months back…can’t wait to learn how to make pie crusts!

Congrats to the newlyweds!!  So happy for you guys :)

{Boulder Engagement Photographer} The proposal at the Flatirons in Boulder…

A few weeks ago, my brother Ryan McDermitt, and long time friend Carrie Zoltowski got engaged!  It was over a year ago that I was taking my brother to the airport, as he was on his way to NYC for a business trip.  I had told him a few days earlier that he should meet my “crazy” friend Carrie, as she worked for Marc Jacobs, lived in the city and I knew she would be happy to show him around.  Unfortunately, he never did see much of NYC, as the bar they were supposed to meet at had been torn down.   However, what he did see was a beautiful, energetic, loving, driven women, whom he couldn’t stop talking and smiling about when I picked him up from the airport.

Little did I know they would hit it off so well, and now be living together in Boulder and engaged!  I couldn’t be happier for the two of them or hand pick a better wife for my brother and sister in law for me :)   My brother is one of my closest friends, always pushing me to be the best, encouraging me (in his own way) and has always been there for me, and Carrie is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, next to her sister Lea of course ;)   Prior to meeting Ryan, Carrie did not know how to swim, but after a few lessons, she not only mastered swimming, but went on to get certified in Scuba diving so she could dive with Ryan on one of their many trips to Mexico!  Very impressive.

I felt honored to not only be their for the engagement, but also help him pick out her diamond from the incredible artist and jewler, J. Albrecht.  On a side note, if your in the market for an engagement ring or custom jeweelry you have to visit their storefront near Boulder, Jay and his wife Laina are amazingly sweet, and Jay and his brother in law Kenny create beautiful masterpieces.  I’ve had several friends who have created their rings there and were very thrilled with the result. Here is a little snippet from their website,

Our strength is creating and fabricating custom made jewelry from start to finish, without the snob quality that other custom jewelers seem to flaunt.  Our custom design process is the easiest way we know of to create heirloom quality jewelry that reflects your style and tastes.

Needless to say, Carrie being a designer and artist, is thrilled with the opportunity to customize her ring!

Now onto some images from the proposal!0002.jpg

Carrie had no idea that he was about to ask her!  Ryan looks pretty excited though :)

After the proposal we went to one of my favorite restaurants in Boulder, Bacaro.  They brought us out a complimentary dessert plate to celebrate the happy couple!

It was yummy!  We are definitely planning to back soon.  They have an amazing happy hour too!

Carrie, welcome to the family!  I’m ecstatic that you are going to be my sister!

{Boulder Baby Photography} Why not Valencia for my 30th Birthday?

Our little girl Chloe arrived into the world on March 20th, 2009 at 1:06pm, weighing in at a mere 5 pounds 10 oz and 19″ long.  Yes, she was born on my 30th Birthday!  At first I was a bit resistant of the idea, now I can’t think of a better Birthday present.  She is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever set my eyes on, and I’m still in shock that she is really ours.  Originally, we were going to name her Chloe Valencia Kaple.  We had filled out the paper work at the hospital, said our goodbyes to the nurses and took her home.  The next morning, 3 days after Chloe’s birth, I asked Wade what he thought of when he first saw her.   He tearfully replied, “I was reminded of Tricia, my mother’s first child, who was stillborn.”  Chloe, unfortunately came out with the umbilical cord wrapped around her little neck, not once, but twice and was purple and white from the lack of oxygen.  The nurses rushed her over to the warmer, administering oxygen, and I extended my hand over to her and began to pray fervently.  Wade and my good friend Ally, whom was also my doula ran over to her side with cameras in hand and began to document her life.   She quickly returned to a normal color, as they rubbed the vernix into her petite body.  Before, I knew it she was on my chest and I was in awe at the miracle of life that was our daughter.

Four years ago almost to the day that Chloe was born, Wade and I began dating.  Shortly after that, on Mother’s Day, we made the trek up to Western NY to meet his family.   After church, we all went to a Chinese buffet for lunch and that is when I first learned of Tricia.   My mother in law asked me when my Birthday was, and I replied March 2oth.  She looked at my father in law and replied that is when Tricia’s Birthday was.   She told me the story of how her first daughter was still born.  Shortly after that on June 4th of 2005, Wade and I became engaged.   Excited, my new mother in law felt as though she was getting the daughter she never had.  Fast forward four years, and now, not only does her daughter in law share a birthday with Tricia, but so does her first granddaughter!  I truly believe that what God takes away, he gives back a double blessing, and so to honor Wade’s oldest sister, and a testimony to God’s faithfulness, we changed Chloe’s name to Chloe Tricia Kaple.  Mom, we love you and if the only reason that Chloe was born on my birthday was to be a blessing to you, than I’m happy to share this day for the rest of my life!

Now, onto some images of our little girl!

0008.jpg

Wade captured these image moments after she was born.  You can see her legs are still purple from the lack of oxygen.  Thankfully, she had a short ride down the birth canal, as I was only pushing for 10 minutes…any longer and I wonder if she would have been ok.0010.jpg

0018.jpgOur little birdy face…

I love being a mom and feel so blessed to have such an amazing family and friends to support us through this new stage in our lives.  A special thanks to Ally Wilton, our doula and dear friend, Stacy Z, who documented the first hours of Chloe’s life, Deirdre, our incredible Midwife of Boulder Nurse Midwives, all the amazing nurses at Boulder Community Foothills hospital, and my mom who arrived two hours after she was born and stayed with us for 10 days, you were a blessing.

Cats in the Cradle…

Well not exactly, but I did find him napping in Chloe’s crib.  In his defense, we did name him Little Baby Kitten (LBK for short), so I can see where he might be confused.   We originally named him Indy, but LB just seemed to stick, so we changed it.   He won’t be the baby for very much longer, as Chloe’s estimated due date is just under a month away!  Look for more pics of the nursery soon, we’re almost finished :)

He might be a little spoiled…I don’t think pink is his color ;)   When we were working on the nursery we had him locked out and he proceeded to jump up on our leather couch and pee on my favorite silk orange pillow!  You have to wonder if animals can’t sense that something is about to change…forever.   We’ve tried to console him by giving plenty of attention and keeping his kitty box clean…let’s hope he doesn’t have any more accidents!

{Louisville Baby Photographer} Lako Family Portrait in Louisville, Colorado…

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of meeting up with the Lako family and their newest addition, Porter!  He’s already 3 months old and is making the funniest facial expressions ever.  I have to apologize, as I haven’t been a very good blogger lately, but I have a good reason, as we’re expecting an addition to our family in just 5 short weeks!  We’ve been busy preparing the nursery, taking birthing classes, attending 3 baby showers and several midwife appointments!  Wheww…getting ready for a baby is a lot of work, but we’re really looking forward to the arrival of our little girl!  I hope to post pictures of the nursery soon!  Now onto the Lako family portrait session!  To view the slideshow of all their images click here.   Here are some of my favorites…

Pigs in a blanket, chicken wings and the Steelers…

I would be amiss not to blog on one of the most exciting days in sports, the Superbowl, especially when my beloved Steelers will be playing the Cardinals this afternoon.  Originally from Pittsburgh, the Steelers hold a special place in my heart and I can’t wait for the game to begin.  In fact, I had troubles sleeping last night because I was so excited for today!  Wade and I have been preparing for tonight’s festivities by making the following dishes: pigs in a blanket, water chestnuts covered in bacon & bbq sauce, vegtable pizza, buffalo chicken wings, and my famouse chocolate brownies!  We’re having a few close friends over too, and can’t wait to celebrate (hopefully) a Steeler victory!!  If they win tonight they’ll have the most Superbowl trophies in the NFL!  Now that is impressive!  Apparently the Pittsburgh schools have already declared a 2 hour delay for their students, no doubt  a smart move.  I’ll leave you with these few pictures from our trip back to the Burgh when we watched the Steelers play the Giants.  Hope you enjoy the game tonight!

Pittsburgh is such a beautiful city…at least in October.  We just returned from a trip to the Burgh and I don’t think they have seen the sun in two months.  It makes me happy that we live in Denver now where it was 60 degrees yesterday!pgh2.jpg

{Boulder Portrait Photographer} The bat cave with Jeremy & Sandra…

We didn’t make it all the way to the bat cave, where Jeremy and Sandra hiked to over a year ago on their first date, but we did enjoy the beautiful 60 degree weather we had last Thursday for their portrait session.   Jeremy wanted to do something special for Sandra for Christmas, so he got her a gift certificate for a portrait session from Center Avenue Imaging.  It made the perfect gift, as these two are are incredible together and from the looks of it are very much in love.   They met on NYE over a year ago and have been together ever since.  Sandra is originally from Peru and is amazing with kids.  Jeremy, is an gifted craftsmen and actually manufactured our photo-booth for us.  A special thanks to him for all his hard work!  Now onto their session!
