Elevate 3 with the Nudds…

I’m currently out of the office till Thursday taking an amazing workshop, Elevate 3 with the incredibly gifted and very gracious Joy and Garrett Nudd.  If you get a chance, be sure to check out one of their workshops!  I strongly believe in continuing my education, and photography in no exception.  I think it’s awesome that such talented, gifted individuals make time out of their busy schedules to share their passion, enthusiasm and hearts with other photographers.  So thank you!!

Bridal in the Boneyard…

Thoughts of my recent trip to Vegas continue to stream in and out of my every day life.  My sweet LV trucker hat complete in my company colors, blue and red sits on my desk, while my newly developed strips of 120 film (from my Holga) taken while in Vegas await to be printed.   One trip to WPPI will change your life as a photographer forever!  This trip was unique, because this time I had the opportunity to be in front of the camera.  My dear friend, Paige, whom when I’m not busy shooting my own weddings I often assist her, had a fabulous idea for a shoot at the Boneyard of 10 women photographers.   You can read more about it here on her blog.  Check out the AWESOME work she did below,  (I grabbed this image from her blog)  I was sooooo honored to be one of the top 10 photographers she choose to be in her shoot!!!  Thank you Paige, I had such a fun time!

internet no-more, green weddings, & artists galore….

I was laying on my couch on Sunday afternoon, recooperating after a very long day of shooting a wedding at the Ritz Carlton in Vail with the uber talented Paige Elizabeth, and I got to thinking how different my life would be if we just didn’t have internet access at our home.    I wonder how many hours I spend blog stalking, facebooking, checking email and perusing the internet for inspiration when I could be learning how to cook a new meal for my husband, going for a run, grabbing coffee with a friend, start a personal photography project (which is actually under way :)   check back soon for more deatails), or spend time drawing?  I ultimately think I would be more productive if my internet access was limited, but will it happen, probably not.

Right now my husband and I, who also works from home, but only for a short time, are experiencing complete internet failure.  Our provider was supposed to come out yesterday btw 3-5 and fix it, but they lost our call, so last evening we headed out for dinner at Gordon Beirsch and caught up on email.  So if your reading this and you’ve experienced a delay in my reaction to email time, I’m sorry.  We hope to get it fixed today :)   I think I’m going through withdrawal, because I keep twitching ;)

So earth day is on the 22nd!!  I’m super pumped,as I have plans to coordinate a community clean-up day in our neighborhood from 3-6 this Saturday.  What are you doing to help planet earth?  Check out  this great article on having a green wedding!  A few things we do as a company to help the earth is shoot digital and only provide online proofs.  This saves from printing out images that you might never want or use and saves our trees :) …yayyy!!

Last, I had the chance to assist Paige on another shoot this past week, which was more editorial in nature, documenting the work of Susan Helmich, an amazingly talented goldsmith located in Monument for her new series, Angels with Attitudes for  Helzberg Diamonds.  You should check out her new series here!  They make wonderful gifts for Mothers Day!!  Also, be sure to check out Paige’s work if your in a Helzberg Diamond store in the near future!!  Paige captured some wonderful images of Susan working in her studio.  I love the opportunity to see other artists at work, it’s sooo inspiring!!

Happy Spring!

Engagement Session from Pittsburgh…

The end of March I had the privilege of flying to my home town of Pittsburgh to shoot Steve and Cassandra’s e-session. I must admit it was a little disheartening at first, because the previous day I had photographed in the most amazing warm Colorado light and after landing in the Burgh I was met with the dreary, sunless western Pennsylvania sky. So I chose to use a different element in this e-session focusing on color, textures and an urban setting. After meeting up with the incredibly gorgeous and gifted writer, Cassandra and her handsome fiance, Steve, I was rejuvenated with by Cassandra’s infectious laugh and Steve’s warm heart :) We had a blast shooting in the Southside of Pittsburgh, which provided the perfect urban backdrop!!

These two have the most AMAZING love story ever! They first met while in Mozambique where Cassandra was working on her first novel and Steve was doing a short term mission trip. They both share such a heart for Africa and will be returning shortly after there wedding in June to not only have a second ceremony, but also to live!!! How awesome is that!! I’m so jealous, as my heart is to do missions in Africa too, but through providing photography for non-profit organizations in such regions as Ghana, Uganda and Mozambique. The last time I visited Africa was life changing and I’m so excited for what Steve and Cassandra are going to be doing while they are there! They will certainly change the lives of so many people of Mozambique with their business venture. I’ll share more about that later, but now onto the e-session!!!

This one was pretty cool too. I love all the incredible signs that cover the streets of the South Side. It’s amazing the things that you notice only after you’ve left a place. There are so many beautiful parts of Pittsburgh.

Steve had fun pointing out the price of a new sweeper, but I don’t think Cassandra was buying it ;)

I really enjoyed capturing the grittiness of the area juxtapose this beautiful couple in love.
