Yesterday I met up with Derek & Katie for their engagement session in Oakland. They have to be the cutest couple ever, just take a look. Katie and I used to work for the same organization, but at different times. It was nice to meet up with her again and meet her fiance, Derek. They both met while working for Urban Impact, a Christian organization that helps bring hope and healing to the Northside community. A special thanks to Jennifer Ielase, who referred the awesome couple. They’ll be married in September on Grove City’s campus.
I was so excited that the merry go round was open!
They even let them go on twice, because the first time Derek wasn’t on his dragon….he was to busy staring into Katie’s beautiful eyes:)
Who doesn’t love sushi and bubble tea?
Thanks Katie and Derek! I had a great time photographing the two of you. I’m looking forward to your wedding in the fall!

I had a blast second shooting with Erica Dilcer at Heinz Field yesterday. The couple were adorable and so laid back, which made our job a lot easier.  Here are some of my favorites from the day. It was a perfect day for a wedding.
This little girl had the most amazing eyes!
April’s parents giving her away…
The lighting was amazing!
April looked like she walked out of a bridal magazine ad…absolutely stunning!
A little fun by the field…
One of the groomsmen came up with the idea for this shot. Thanks!
I don’t think April stopped smiling the whole time.
I’ve been playing around with the idea of negative space in my images, here is an example. I’m also fascinated with linear lines that draw attention to my subject, as seen here.
Congrats Micheal & April!
Last night I threw my brother a surprise 30th Birthday party. He flew in for a friend’s wedding and had planned to have dinner with us and spend the night, however we had something different planned. Thanks to my dad who picked him up and created a decoy “logging story” so that he wouldn’t view all the cars parked behind the barn.
He had no idea a party was awaiting him!
My husband and I are working on a prototype for a photobooth. Here are some images from it. Each guest went home with memento of a 4×6 photo w/ four images on it and a banner on the right that read “Happy 30th Birthday Ryan”. If your interested in having one at your next wedding or party, please contact us.
Ryan and I as rockstars!
Just goofing around….
After dinner we played a serious match of “Cranium.”
Here is my team “The Girls”!
Team Hess at work…
A slideshow of Ryan’s life played in the background as he blew out his Birthday candle. Thanks to all of Ryan’s friends who came out and brought a dish. We had an awesome time. There is still confetti all over the house, but it was worth it!
For Valentines day my husband got me a gift certificate for a day at the spa. A spa day is not complete with out one of your closest girlfriends, so as I thank you gift for referring my most recent clients, John & Lauren and Sarah & Nate, I took Kim, an amazingly talented photographer and dear friend out to lunch at the Sewickley Cafe and then over the the Sewickley Spa for facials and manicures. Afterwards we hit Walnut streets and Kim found an really cute, green laptop bag for her MAC. I was going to get one in orange, but I decided to hold off for now. We ended up at my favorite coffee shop, Crazy Mocha. In addition, we ran in to an old friend of mine, Rodan, who is an awesome blues musician and met his fiance. Congrats to both of you! Here are some pics from our day.
Kim and I at Sewickley Cafe celebrating her acceptance as a Grace Ormond Platinum Wedding photographer! Way to go Kim!

We got back from Ephrata, PA today after a nice weekend get away. We had a wonderful time attending Jason Upton’s conference and hearing his band play. They are really amazing! If you’ve never had the opportunity to attend one of his weekends, you should try to make it to one. It will change the way you view life.  The town of Ephrata was very interesting, as it was located in a cloister. That word is so fun.  Anyway, it was really cute with lots of old historic buildings, churches and national landmarks.  I was hoping to go out and photograph today, but it was raining:( However, I did get some shots of the conference from last night.
We’re leaving town for the weekend to attend a conference near Hershey,PA. My husband and I attended when we first started dating and it was amazing, so I’m excited to have the chance to go again. In addition, Jason Upton will be there. His music is very inspirational. We’re looking forward to spending time with Johnny (my husband’s best man) and his wife Erika, whom are both amazingly talented musicians.
I just hope my mac book pro laptop arrives before we leave! I’ve been lusting after one for some time now and I finally convinced my husband that I had to have one. After owning the 17″ power book and the G4 tower, I felt the need for yet more power!
July 7, 2007 is no doubt one of the most popular dates this year to be married. There is a great article in the New York Times about how important this date, 7.7.07 is to everyone from the high rolling gambling types to Christians. You can check it out here. Oddly enough, all of July is booked with the exception of this date. If you or anyone you know is planning to get married, please drop us an email to request more info. We are also available for travel and will soon be offering our wedding photography services in both Denver and Pittsburgh.
If you haven’t already be sure and check out the new “engagement session” on our website. We just started including engagement sessions in our packages, so you’ll see a limited number of couples. If you’ve already booked your date with us, but haven’t set up an e-session, contact us soon.  I would like to have all the sessions finished before the beginning of wedding season (June) if possible.
Here is Jeff & Angela’s E-session slide show from this past Friday. We shot in Historic Harmony, which had a lot of really cool antiques. The shots in the abandon house and barn are right in our back yard, which makes it a great place to photograph.
I thought this might be helpful to anyone planning a wedding. It helps to educate bride & grooms on all of the choices available and provides honest answers about wedding photography.
